KARACHI: Baloch leader passes away

KARACHI, Jan 23: Eminent political and social figure of Baloch community in Karachi Haji Ahmed Khan Brohi died here on Sunday at the age of 81 after a brief illness. He was buried in Mewashah graveyard.

The deceased, a businessman, was father of Abid Brohi, a central leader of the Baloch Ittehad Tehrik (BIT).

He left behind a widow, four sons and six daughters to mourn his death. His funeral was attended by people belonging to all walks of life in Karachi.

Haji Ahmed was an active member of the Pakistan Muslim League. He was elected as councillor in 1953 and then a BD (Basic Democracy) member in 1960. He founded Karachi Kickers Football Club in 1953 and organized Lyari Community Development Project Football Tournament in 1979.

He toured several countries of Asia, Middle East and Europe as a manager of his football team. He quit active politics in 1962. His death has been condoled widely by Baloch community in Sindh and Balochistan.

Soyem will be held at his residence on Brohi Road, UC-9, Singo Lane, Lyari.
