KARACHI: No threat to govt, says Arbab


KARACHI, Jan.23: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said here Monday that there was no threat to his government.

“My government and the assembly would complete their tenure,” he said while talking to newsmen after laying floral wreath at the mausoleum of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Clifton, Karachi.

To a question about fresh recruitment in government departments, he said a comprehensive plan had been prepared to provide jobs to people of the province in a transparent way on merit basis.

The chief minister said that the law and order situation had improved during his tenure and added that foolproof security arrangements have been made to ensure peace during Muharamul Haram.

He said that the government was spending Rs.150 million on construction of Musafirkhana and the auditorium to facilitate the visitors.

“Development work is under way and the encroachments have also been removed,” he said, adding that similar development works have also been initiated at the shrines of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

Earlier, speaking at the launching ceremony of an anti-polio drive at the CM House, Dr Rahim vowed that anti-polio campaign would continue till eradication of the disease.

He asked the Sindh health minister Shabbir Qaimkhani and secretary health Naushad Sheikh to ensure that all children up to five years of age are vaccinated in every village and town of the province.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim underlying the need for generating energy from alternative sources said that development in this regard would pave way for uplift projects in rural areas of the province.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting at Chief Minister’s House on Monday.

Air Marshal Shahid Hamid briefed the meeting that water pumps, running on solar energy, could pump six gallon of water per minute. This was the cheapest way to get water, he added.

He further informed the participants that each of 80 windmills installed in Mirpur Sakro produced 500 watts of electricity, which was enough to light three houses for the whole day.

Among others, Tariq Nasarullah Malik, Secretary Land Utilization Khalid Mehmood Soomro and Muslim Abbas attended the meeting. —PPI
