KARACHI: Teams set up to enforce ban on wedding meals

KARACHI, Jan 23: Saddar Town Municipal Administration has formed monitoring teams to ensure strict implementation of the ban on serving meals in wedding ceremonies imposed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

These teams would pay surprise visit to marriage halls, hotels, community centres and other places to see if any meal was being served in violation of the ban, said a statement issued here on Sunday.

A special meeting in this connection was held in the chairmanship of TMO Mukhtar Hussain which was attended by representatives of hotels, marriage halls, gymkhana and community centres.

Mukhtar Hussain pointed out that there was a complete ban on ostentatious food and serving of meals in wedding ceremonies and directed the stakeholders to ensure implementation of the same. He warned of strict legal action against the violators, which includes imposition of fine ranging between Rs100,000 to Rs500,000 or one month’s imprisonment or both.

He said that letters had also been sent to the TPOs directing them to make all SHOs of police stations in their respective areas bound to ensure implementation of the ban.

He appealed to the people to extend full cooperation in this regard. —APP
