KARACHI, Jan 23: A free computer learning centre was opened in Khadda Market area in UC-4, Lyari Town, on Monday. The centre has been established in the premises of the KI Kharadar School in collaboration with an NGO ‘Koordination Group’ which has also provided the computer systems.

The project is a part of the NGO’s programme to provide the needy students necessary assistance and support to acquire computer education and then educate other such people.

Secretary of the project, Dr Sarah Bano, said that the NGO had already established 19 such centres – seven in Karachi and 12 in the interior of Sindh.

In his speech, Chairman of the NGO Hanif S. Kalia highlighted the importance of information technology and stressed the need for promoting the IT education, saying that the country could not achieve progress without it.

He said his group had planned more such institutes in the poor localities of the province.

Earlier, a group of students enthralled the audience by presenting tableau and national songs.

The ceremony was attended, among others, by officials of education department and eminent educationists of the locality.
