Inzamam told to rest for six days

FAISALABAD, Jan 22: Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq will take no further part in the second Test against India and has been ordered to rest for six days because of a recurring back problem. “Obviously he is not in a position to take part in this Test and as far as his availability for the third Test is concerned that will only be known after the six-day rest period,” said a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday.

Inzamam, playing in his 107th Test, scored his 25th hundred on Sunday after sitting out the early overs on the second day because of a back spasm. He did not field in the Indian innings.

Inzamam said he had been given pain-killing injections so that he could bat on Saturday.

“It is disappointing but the pain is at times unbearable and I will have to give the back a proper rest to make myself fit for the final Test,” he said.

The third and final Test is in Karachi from Jan 29. The first Test was drawn.

“It is a problem that has troubled me for the last two years and at times it gets very difficult for me. I need to find some permanent solution to it,” Inzamam said.
