Safari Queen captures Sindh Breeder Cup

By A Sports Correspondent

KARACHI, Jan 22: Three-year-old filly, Safari Queen, obliged the punters when she captured the Sindh Breeder Cup in the Winter Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday. She beat Captain Black by distance in the six furlongs race which was reduced to six contestants after Symbol Of Love withdrew at the last moment.

Three-year-old colt, Zidane, settled for the third place.

By virtue of victory, Safari Queen also made amends for her defeat to Dubawi last week.

Continuing her winning spree, four-year-old filly, Savabeel, landed the Aberdonian Stakes Cup outpacing the opponent with comfortable ease by six and a half lengths. Owned by M. R. Hussain, she was piloted home by Ghulam Shabbir II, to make it two in a row.

Another filly, Makina, which belonged to the same owner, was withdrawn reducing the field to eight.

King Of Sanghar occupied second place while Ghazan Prince had to be content with third.

Nine-year-old bay horse, Tag Team, ran away with the opener. He was chased by Gold Disc and Chana Aya.

Dragun Heart justified his billing making it two in a row by winning the second race by one and a half length. Last Sunday the colt lifted the Eid Milan Cup. He was chased home by Shan-e-Arab and Arab Hi Arab for the remaining two places.

Chestnut Jingu surprised the pundits by crossing the finishing post two lengths ahead of 13 contestants. Jawan Bakht secured second while Haseena-e-Arab took third spot.

The sixth race ended in favour of Bright And Early, a four year old filly, after she overtook Al Jarrar in the closing stages to win by Head.

Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara also had a winner after Terrorist sprinted home by jockey Shafi Muhammad in the seventh event of the programme. Leo Again finished second. Bay Lucky Step annexed the concluding event by getting the better of Al Zarrar.
