Safari Queen fancied to land Sindh Breeder Cup

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Jan 21: With one cup under her belt, three-year-old filly, Safari Queen, is fancied to add yet another feather to her cap by capturing the Sindh Breeder Cup in the Winter Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

She is drawn in the smallest field of seven contestants in the six furlongs third race of the programme. It is a handicap race for Pakistani colts and fillies of three-year-olds.

The filly obliged the punters by lifting the six furlongs Golden Sleeper Stakes Cup in one minute 18 3/5 seconds in the Nov 20 meeting. However, in the AKD Cup that followed, she settled for a second behind Dubawi.

Three-year-old colts Shamardal and Zidane should battle for the next two places.

After having three dismal runs, the former occupied second slot behind Ouija Board in the last Sunday’s meeting while the latter came out with flying colours in the previous outing on Dec 18.

Four-year-old filly, Savabeel, is poised to make it two in a row by winning the Aberdonian Stakes Cup to be run over a distance of one mile.

Owned by M. R. Hussain, the filly is in tremendous form having won the seven furlongs Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah Cup by a wide margin of seven and a half length last Sunday.

She should be chased by Harry Potter and Excalibur for the places.

A card of eight races, including two cups, has been drawn for the day. The first race begins at 12.30 noon.

Desperado, a nine-year-old horse, if tried, should win the opener. He had unimpressive runs in the last few outings.

Gold Disc and Tag Team were fancied in a field of 11 to occupy second and third slots.

Bay horse, Fakhar-e-Sanghar should win the second race. He should be chased by Dragun Heart and Arab Hi Arab.

Leopard, a four-year-old colt, should dominate the fourth race. Birj-ul-Arab and Countess Mah Again should follow him for places.

Deniro, Leo Again and Victory Symbol have bright chances of crossing the finishing line ahead of their opponent’s in the last three races.
