By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 21: A car was set on fire and 10 students were picked up by the police following a clash between two student groups at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST), Abdul Haque Campus.

The police arrested eight members of the Islami Jamiat Talaba and two of the All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organization.

Protesters torched a car parked outside the premises of the FUUAST, which was owned by famous Naat Khawan Siddique Ismail. His son had come to take master’s examinations.

Town Police Officer Saddar Sanaullah Abbasi said two students were denied permission to participate in the exams, which led to the clash between the student groups. A car was set ablaze while aerial firing also took place.

He said the police brought the situation under control and arrested 10 students from both groups.

He said the police talked to the varsity administration and the two students, who had been denied entry, were later allowed to take the exams.

He said security at the varsity would be stepped up from Monday till the end of the examinations session.

Police said Kaneez Munawwara, 32, living in Super Market police limits in Liaquatabad was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room.

Police shifted the body to hospital for autopsy and believed there was no foul play in the incident.

The woman might have been disturbed due to meagre financial income and unable to run domestic affairs.

In utter frustration, she might have ended her life, the police added.
