KARACHI: New college in Korangi

KARACHI, Jan 21: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Saturday inaugurated new buildings of Degree College for Women, Korangi No 4 and Boys Secondary School, Korangi No 1.

The cost of both the projects is more than Rs60 million. The new building of the college would have five classrooms, four laboratories, a home economics lab, four lab offices and five stores, while the old building of the school would be reconstructed in addition to the construction of a water tank, boundary walls, lab and ground of the school. The projects will be completed in one and a half years.

Speaking on the occasion, the nazim said that the foundation stone of the college project had been laid in 1991 by the then Haq Parast education minister but works on the project had been halted, thus delaying the project for 15 years.

The nazim said that Korangi and Landhi would be made model towns and added that works had been initiated on various projects pertaining to education, health, roads, water supply and sewerage in these areas.

He said that the city government would allocate fund in its next budget for recruitment of teachers and staff in the college.

However, the nazim said that teachers could be recruited on contract basis to cater the immediate needs of the college.—PPI
