LAHORE, Jan 20: Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan said on Friday the present level of subsidies in the western world was not acceptable to the developing countries like Pakistan. He stated this at a function organized by the Punjab Chamber of Aiwan-i-Zaraat. The minister briefed the Aiwan members on farm subsidies given by the EU and the US.

The participants said subsidy was a support for farmers to meet increasing input costs. “If developing countries can withdraw this concession from their farmers, why the US and EU are extending it,” they asked.—APP
