ISLAMABAD, Jan 20: Taking advantage of Thursday’s clear skies, US helicopters flew their 3400th mission and delivered 232 tons of humanitarian assistance, making a new one-day record. This is 132 tons over the UN daily requirement. This brought the total amount of relief supplies transported to over 9000 tons. For quake survivors this ensures that enough supplies are on hand at distribution centres when weather prevents flight operations.

“These milestones tell us that we are on track,” said Colonel Bob Johnson, Commander Task Force Eagle, the US helicopter relief force.

“But what really matters is report that there is a 30-day supply of food at the distribution centres,” he added.

Currently 12 CH47 Chinook helicopters are flying relief supplies out of Muzaffarabad and Chatterplain airfield to the Neelum, Jehlum, and Allai valleys.—APP
