KARACHI, Jan 19: Most cable television operators suspended their transmissions on Thursday night following a dispute with the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority over a ban on certain channels. Addressing a press conference earlier in the day, the Cable Operators Association of Pakistan (CAP) leaders had issued an ultimatum to the government that transmissions would be stopped across Sindh from Monday if the ban on Indian and other channels was not withdrawn.
Representatives of cable operators, who came from Hyderabad and other parts of Sindh, had condemned alleged raids and arrests of some operators. They had suggested that transmission should be stopped immediately.
In a late-night development, CAP and other associations reviewed the decision and decided to suspend their transmissions forthwith.
