PESHAWAR, Jan 19: Malik Mohammad Saad Khan and Olympian Saeed Khan were elected as president and secreteary of the NWFP Hockey Association on Thursday.

State Minister Amir Muqam was nominated as patron-in-chief of the association.

All the office-bearers were elected unopposed at a meeting which was attended by the newly-elected members of the provincial council from 13 districts.

President NWFP Olympic Association Syed Aqil Shah also attended the meeting that elected Malik Wadan as senior vice president, Sardar Arif as vice president whereas Faiz Mohammad Faizi and Mohammad Yousaf were elected as associate secretaries.

Wisal Mohammad was elected finance secretary. Saleh Mohammad, Shafiq Javed, Tariq Mahmood Khan, Syed Zahir, Sajjad Ali Yousafzai and Ahmad Nawaz Milizai were chosen as members of the executive committee of the NWFP Hockey Association.

The meeting also nominated Malik Mohammad Saad Khan, Saeed Khan, Malik Wadan and Sardar Arif were nominated to participate in the meeting of the council of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on behalf of the NWFP Hockey Association.

The newly-elected president pledged to purge the association of politics, which according to him was adversely affecting the game in this part of the country.

He said that steps would taken to promote the game at the grossroot level and search for the hidden talent. All the players would be selected for the tournaments on merit.

Saad directed all the presidents and secretaries of the district level association to help the young players by organising matches and tournaments at the district level.
