TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 19: In the run-off elections for the Gojra tehsil naib nazim seat here on Thursday, Mian Ahsan Akbar of the Warraich group defeated PPP’s Mian Islam Abid with a margin of only two votes. Mian Akbar bagged 18 votes while Mian Abid obtained 16 votes. The defeated candidate was supported by Punjab Forest Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rehman and Gojra Tehsil Nazim Asad Zaman Cheema while Ahsan Akbar had the backing of MNA Amjad Warraich and former tehsil nazim Khalid Warraich.

Police made special security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident for the rivalry between the two groups had reached new heights. Even the tehsil nazim was disallowed in the TMA Hall where a show of hand was conducted by the returning officer.
