KARACHI: High court summons CCB officer

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 19: A division bench of the Sindh High Court on Thursday summoned the executive officer of the Clifton Cantonment Board to appear in person on Friday and explain his failure to show cause why he should not be tried for contempt.

The bench, which consisted of Justices Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery and Maqbool Baqar had directed the executive officer to appear in a case relating to construction of an unauthorized building in his jurisdiction. A non-governmental organization had alleged that multi-storeyed structure was being raised on plots 57/1 and 57/2, Delhi Colony, Clifton Cantonment, in an exclusively residential area. Impleading the cantonment board, the petitioner submitted through Advocate Abdul Jabbar Korai that the board was taking no action against the violative structure or its builder despite repeated complaints.

The executive officer was issued a show cause notice for contempt for Thursday for not answering the court summons. He failed to appear or submit a reply on Thursday and the bench asked him to personally appear before it at 11 p.m. on Friday.

affidavit sought: Another division bench comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Ali Sain Dino Metlo on Thursday directed the IG Prisons and Superintendent of Karachi Central Prison to submit an affidavit in respect of a prisoner handed over to Punjab police, adds APP. The petition was filed by Nazli Zahid, wife of Syed Zahid Ali.
