Badminton: Lin Dan in 2nd round

Published January 19, 2006

BIRMINGHAM (England), Jan 18: Top seed Lin Dan of China had to battle for 80 minutes to secure his second round spot at the All England championships on Wednesday.

The 2004 title holder looked far from comfortable against determined South Korean Jang Young-soo and was taken to a third set before winning 15-5 9-15 15-9.

Lin seemed to have shrugged off the loss of the second game when he raced 6-0 clear in the decider but Young clawed back to trail 12-9 and but for missing two easy cross-court smashes in the closing stages could well have embarrassed the Chinese.
