US defends raid

WASHINGTON, Jan 17: The White House on Tuesday expressed no apparent regrets over the US airstrike aimed at Al Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri, which missed its target and killed several civilians in Pakistan on Friday.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan instead voiced US determination in pursuing members of the Al Qaeda terror network.

Asked by reporters whether the United States had any regrets, McClellan replied: “You’ve heard our comments about matters of that nature in the past.

“We work closely with Pakistan and others to go after Al Qaeda and bring their leaders to justice and we will continue to do so,” he said.—AFP
