No case of bird flu: official

RAWALPINDI, Jan 17: Secretary Livestock, Punjab, Babar Yaqub Fateh Mohammad has said no case of bird flue has been reported in the province and the federal capital. He stated this during his visit to the Poultry Research Institute here on Tuesday. He said the government had provided funds for monitoring any suspected bird flu case in an organized manner.

Director of the institute Dr Shamsul Hasan said they had examined 0.7 million samples of blood and eggs collected from different areas of Punjab and the federal capital, but not a single case of bird flue was detected.

He called upon the poultry owners to ensure the proper burial of dead birds and arrange for the regular spray of pesticides as a precautionary measure for preventing the outbreak of the disease.—A Reporter
