KARACHI: Man awarded 7 years for kidnapping woman

KARACHI, Jan 17: The additional district and session judge, Malir, Ms Ameena Nazeer Ansari, sentenced on Tuesday a man to serve a seven-year term for kidnapping and raping a married woman.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs25,000 on Ashiq Hussain, who would have to undergo an additional simple imprisonment for six months in case of default on the payment.
The convict had kidnapped Yasmin, a paramedic and resident of Gharibabad in Malir City, on March 2, 2004, when she was going home from her hospital in the vicinity. The kidnapper took her to Larkana and kept her there for a couple of days. He also raped the woman during the captivity.
ROBBERS SENTENCED: The same court sentenced two robbers to suffer rigorous imprisonment for 10 years.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs25,000 each on Mohammad Hassan and Babu Shah alias Ali Mohammad and he ordered that the defaulter on the payment would have to undergo an additional six-month term.
The two robbers had barged into the Hasan Poultry Farm of complainant Syed Aamir Mir in Gadap on March 5, 2003. The intruders held the complainant and his employees hostage at gunpoint and took away Rs130,000 and a pick-up from the farm.
MURDER CASE: The additional district and sessions judge, East, Jawaid Qaiser, issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of an accused in a murder case against top leadership of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi).
The judge ordered the police to arrest accused Shahid and produce him before the court on Feb 12. MQM chairman Afaq Ahmed and general secretary Aamir Khan are co-accused in the case, which pertained to murder of Mohammad Farooq on June 19, 1992 in Landhi.
RANGERS’ VAN CASE: An anti-terrorism court put off the hearing of the rangers van attack case against two workers of the banned Jundullah after recording the statement of a prosecution witness.
Judge Feroze Mehmood Bhatti of ATC-2 fixed Jan 25 for the next hearing after special public prosecutor Naimat Ali Randhawa examined a medico-legal officer of the Civil Hospital as prosecution witness.
Ataur Rehman and Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa have been prosecuted for attacking the rangers’ mobile van on March 19, 2004 under Baloch Colony Bridge in Ferozabad police area. Two ranger personnel were killed and three others were injured in the incident.
