KARACHI, Jan 17: The Saddar Town Administration, in its operation against encroachments, has removed more than 600 vendors, pushcarts, stalls, counters from areas in and around the Empress Market, Regal Chowk, Shahrah-i-Iraq on Monday.

The anti-encroachment campaign was initiated on special instructions from the Sindh High Court and governor for the town administration.

The drive was supervised by the town nazim, Mohammad Dilawar, and naib nazim Nasir Taimuri. Nazims of union councils of the town and councillors were also present on the occasion.

The encroachment department of Saddar Town, police force from the Saddar, Artillery, Preedy police stations and traffic police took part in the operation with the help of dumpers, loaders, shovels, tractors and open trucks and bob cats.

Encroachments and sun sheds were also removed from areas including Preedy Street, Mansfield Street, Dawood Pota Road, Zaibunnisa Street, Abdullah Haroon Road, Aga Khan Soyem Road, etc.

The town’s spokesman said people voluntarily removed illegal installations and extensions from in front of their shops during the operation.

The town administration has set up camps at Empress Market, Regal Chowk, Shahrah-i-Iraq and Aga Khan Soyem Road to ensure that encroachments do not grown in these areas again. These camps will be manned by special squads.

The town nazim has directed the squad to ensure that encroachers do not return irrespective of their influence.

He said the anti-encroachment drive will continue till all encroachments were removed from the Saddar Town area. He warned that action would be taken against town officials if encroachments re-emerged in their areas.—APP
