LONDON, Jan 17: European stock markets fell on Tuesday amid profit-taking and concern over higher oil prices following steep losses in Japan, dealers said.

London’s FTSE 100 index of leading shares shed 0.72 per cent to 5,699 points, in Paris the CAC 40 dropped 1.01 per cent to 4,807.14, and Frankfurt’s DAX 30 lost 0.99 per cent to 5,460.16 points.

The DJ Euro Stoxx 50 index of leading eurozone shares was down 0.94 per cent at 3,610.07 points.

As European markets closed, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had lost 0.56 per cent to 10,898.88 in New York, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite showed a drop of 0.66 per cent at 2,301.70.—AFP
