KARACHI: Rs120m water schemes for Gadap


KARACHI, Jan 16: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that in order to provide water to the growers of Gadap Town, construction of 971 watercourses and more than 20 water tanks will be completed by the next year at a cost of Rs120 million.

“The development work would be carried out without affecting the natural beauty of the town which would be presented as model not only for the villages of interior Sindh but also for those of the entire country,” claimed the nazim.

He was addressing the notables of the villages of Gadap Town after performing inauguration of the construction work on watercourses and water tanks on Monday.

The nazim was briefed that after completion of these watercourses and tanks about 140,000 acres of land could be cultivated as against 50,000 acres being cultivated at present.

Water being wasted would also be saved and thus cheaper as well as fresh vegetables would be available to the citizens besides a variety of fruits, it was stated.

Mustafa Kamal said that the villages located in Gadap Town would be developed with the availability of all modern facilities.

He said a master plan would be prepared for determination of the location of each village on the basis of which feasibility of the construction of a road from the villages to market would be prepared.

The nazim said that the city government’s initiated projects of construction of watercourses and small water dams would bring great improvement in the socio-economic standards of the residents of these areas.

He underlined the need for establishment of a network of small size recreational places in Gadap as well. He also emphasized upon carrying out of a survey of these areas by the registered consultant firms of the government for undertaking proper development work.

Mr Kamal said that the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board would be directed to consider supplying of drinking water to these areas. He said the water treated through the treatment plants being established for industries could also be utilized for cultivation purpose in the villages of Gadap.

DCO Fazlur Rehman and Gadap Town Nazim Murtaza Baloch also addressed on the occasion while EDO Agriculture Muhammad Amin Khaskheli gave briefing about the project. —APP
