SUKKUR: Bajaur attack failure of govt: JUI-F: Call to end military action

SUKKUR, Jan 16: A meeting of the Majlis-i-Shura of the Sukkur district JUI-F has condemned the US attack on a village in the Bajaur agency in which 18 innocent people were killed.
The meeting was held in the Madrasah Siddiqia in Rohri on Sunday night with Maulana Abdul Qayum Halejvi in the chair.
The meeting discussed the present political scenario of the country.
It called upon the government to stop cooperating with the US in its fight against terrorism as the US killed 18 innocent persons in Pakistan.
The meeting demanded immediate end to Wana, Waziristan and Balochistan army operations and asked the government to shelve the issue of the Kalabagh dam for ever.
Meanwhile, the JUI-F chief and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, in his telephonic address to the participants of the meeting, termed the US attack a failure of the Musharraf government.
He demanded resignation from President Musharraf.
Maulana Rehman said that they had warned the president about consequences of supporting the US but he did what he could to please the US.
He slammed the pressure being put over Iran and other Islamic countries by the US.
Mr Rehman said the US could have attacked many other Islamic countries by now if it did not find strong resistance in Afghanistan and Iraq.
SNA: Scores of activists of the Sindh National Alliance took out a procession and observed a sit-in at the Clock Tower on Monday against construction of the controversial Kalabagh dam and army operation in Balochistan.
The protest was led by Shahzada Bhutto and Lala Suhail Pathan.
It started from the Teer chowk and reached the Clock Tower, where the protesters observed a sit-in for an hour.
Traffic remained jam at the tower due to the protest.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said the Kalabagh dam would turn agricultural lands of Sindh barren.
They strongly condemned killing of innocent people in Balochistan by army and demanded its stoppage.
A similar procession was taken out in Shikarpur by workers of the Sindh National Alliance.
Led by Aslam Pathan, the protesters marched through various streets of the city and reached the press club, where they observed a sit-in for two hours.
On the occasion, the protesters raised slogans against the Kalabagh dam and army operation in Balochistan.
Another procession was also taken out in Ghotki under the auspicious of the Sindhi Awami Awaaz.
The protesters were led by its president Jamal Shah.

ACCIDENT: One person was killed and 16 others injured in a road accident at the National Highway near Ubauro in the Ghotki district on Monday morning.
Reports said that a passenger bus which was going to Lahore from Karachi hit a standing truck on the highway, while another passenger coach coming from behind the bus hit the Lahore bound bus.
