KARACHI: Big dams termed vital

Published January 17, 2006

KARACHI, Jan 16: Begum Saeeda Soomro, Jacobabad Nazim and mother of Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro, has said that the progress and prosperity of the country depend on the construction of big dams.

In a statement issued here on Monday, she stressed the need of launching a sustained campaign in this connection to make people realize the gravity of the situation and the immediate need for building new water reservoirs.

She disclosed that a representative delegation of growers and farmers from Sindh would soon visit various parts of Punjab and meet the growers, farmers and elected leaders of the province with a view to impress upon them the need to develop consensus for construction of big water reservoirs in the country.

Begum Saeeda Soomro further said that she would herself lead the delegation of farmers and growers of Sindh as she was of the firm view that construction of big water reservoirs and new dams was vital to Pakistan’s survival and further delay could badly hit the country’s interests. —APP
