Umpires err

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Jan 15: The ICC elite panel of umpires under fire from all quarters for committing too many errors made an elementary mistake on the third day of the first Test between India and Pakistan at Qadhafi Stadium on Sunday. A day in which only 73 minutes’ play was possible due to bad light, the two umpires Darrell Hair (Australia) and Rudi Koertzen (South Africa) allowed India to resume the first innings at 10.30am.

But play lasted till 11.30am when bad light again interrupted with Virender Sehwag facing the last ball off leg- spinner Danish Kaneria.

However, when play resumed at 1.15pm, Sehwag was again at the striker’s end instead of Rahul Dravid to face paceman Mohammad Sami.

Both the umpires failed to take notice of the error and Sehwag faced Sami.
