Delegates arrive for donors’ conference


ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: Foreign delegates have started reaching the federal capital to attend international red cross/red crescent societies donors conference being organized by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to generate more funds for reconstruction of the quake affected areas.

According to a statement, the delegates include Nan Buzad from American Red Cross, Paul Antico from British Red Cross, Olivier Nyseens and Caroline Celis from Belgian Red Cross; Yang Xusheng from Chinese Red Cross, Yunhong Zhang from Canadian Red Cross; Virginie Roirn, Birte Hald and Kasper Bro Larsen from Danish Red Cross; Kalle Loovi and Raija Hurskainen from Finish Red Cross; Orianne Boyer and Ernesto Herrera from French Red Cross; Lubbo Roewer, Susanne Schneider and Erhard Bauer from German Red Cross; Soo Yuen Han from Hong Kong Red Cross, Satoshi Sugai from Japanese Red Cross; Ugo Bernieri and Mario Brage from Italian Red Cross; Colm Byrne from Irish Red Cross, Kristin Lunden from Norwegian Red Cross, Andrew Mckie from New Zealand Red Cross, Eelko Brouwer and Wilma Ter Heege from Netherland Red Cross; Khalid n Daib and Saleh Ali Mohammad from Qatar red Crescent; Nina Paulsen from Swedish Red Cross, Lisa and Rebecca from Tiawan Red Cross; Mustafa Kaplan, Ypek Gumustekin, Kamil Kurtul and Merc Gozden from Turkish Red Crescent; Vivian Raksakulthai from Bangkok del Red Cross and Lars Lindersholm and Robert Mckerrow from SARD.

PRCS Sindh Branch Chairman Maj-Gen (retired) Mohammad Bashir, NWFP Branch Chairman Dr Sher Mohammad and Balochistan Branch Chairman Sikindar Hayat Jamali will also attend the conference. Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Maj-Gen (retired) Mohammad Anwar will also participate in the closing session of the conference.

The conference will continue from January 16 to 18. A large number of expatriate Pakistanis will also attend the conference and make donations.

The delegates will also visit the devastated areas on Monday.

On Tuesday, besides the PRCS Chairman address, the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority chairman will give a presentation on the reconstruction plan of the affected areas. On Wednesday pledges will be made that will be followed by a press briefing.
