US airstrike in Bajaur widely condemned

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: Ruling Muslim League and social movements have condemned US airstrike in Bajaur agency in which scores of civilians were killed. “The whole nation should denounce such kind of attacks which caused killing of innocent civilians,” ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said while talking to a private TV channel here on Sunday.

Mr Hussain said such incidents should be condemned but Pakistan should also keep the US away from doing such kind of acts inside the country.

He also supported the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s protest and said the whole nation should participate in it.

PRM: The People’s Rights Movement (PRM) has also condemned the killing of 18 people in Bajaur agency as a result of US airstrikes and said the Pakistani government should bear total responsibility for the travesty.

The PRM also condemned the subsequent police action against local residents of the area who had gathered to protest against the bombings.

Nazish Zahoor of the PRM said the bombings had once again exposed the government’s claims that it was not towing the line of US imperialism. In fact, the government is essentially a stooge of the Bush administration and is totally dependent on the Americans for its existence.

The PRM activist said the government had persisted with a policy of supporting imperialist war mongering in spite of the overt opposition of the Pakistani people to the war on terror. It is shameful that the government is still adhering to the American demands and that along with the other anti- people military operations taking place in Waziristan and Balochistan, this most recent strike underlines that the government is totally unconcerned with the welfare of the Pakistani people.

Nazish Zahoor said there was little doubt that the continuing support of a pro-imperialist policy would threaten the internal security of the country itself.

The PRM activist said the vast majority of peoples around the world no longer believed the American government’s rhetoric about fighting for freedom, and that an immense tide of popular sentiment was erupting against imperialism in all corners of the globe.

The most positive manifestation of this anti-imperialism sentiment is found in Latin America where many governments have been overthrown for pursuing a pro-imperialist policy. It is a matter of time before similar upheavals start to take place across the Muslim world where ruling classes insist on supporting imperialism so as to secure their own tenuous positions.

The PRM activist said the resistance in Iraq continued to lead the way for all anti-imperialist forces around the world and it was now undeniable that America had entered its new Vietnam in Iraq.

All anti-imperialist forces in Pakistan would be invited to mobilize for a global day of action against the American occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan and the Israeli occupation of Palestine on March 19, which will mark the third anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, the activist said.
