GILGIT, Jan 14: The Northern Areas police on Saturday claimed to have arrested four proclaimed offenders belonging to a banned extremist organization and wanted in connection with the murder of a religious leader, Agha Ziauddin Rizvi. Sources said that those arrested belonged to the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.

Northern Areas IG Sarmad Saeed Khan told journalists that a police team, headed by Gilgit SP Raja Rahmat, conducted ‘a raid in the vicinity of Kargah Nullah and arrested the four fugitives — Nawab Alam, son of Mohammad Hussain; Akhtar Jan, son of Abdul Hameed; Abdul Sadiq, son of Abdul Shahab; and Mohammad Anwer alias Moaviya, son of Hajjaj.

The IGP said Rs1.5 million reward had been announced for those providing information about the four accused. “We have ascertained the identity of a co-accused in the murder case of former IG, N. Areas, Sakhiullah Tareen,” Mr Khan said.
