LAHORE, Jan 14: The rail transit project has been conceived to provide better travelling facilities to the people of Lahore and to overcome traffic problems. This was stated by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi while presiding over a meeting related to the project here on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by Transport Minister Rana Shamshad Ahmad, Chief Secretary Salman Siddique, District Nazim Mian Amer Mehmood and other senior officials.

The chief minister said the project would provide a rail network in the entire city. The infrastructure development for the system was being started at a large scale which would not only generate construction activity but also provide jobs to scores of people.

He said a committee under Planning and Development Chairman Suleiman Ghani would submit its final report after reviewing the project in detail. The provision of comfortable and economical travelling facility would improve the living standard of people and solve people’s problems, he said.

He said the rail transit system was being designed in consultation with foreign experts and the facility would link all localities of Lahore.
