SUKKUR, Jan 13: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has said that Kalabagh dam will render barren agricultural lands of Sindh. Speaking at a protest meeting at the Sukkur Clock Tower on Friday. Mr Palijo said the dam was a conspiracy against the people of Sindh.
He said that an army ruler had sold three rivers to India and now they were hatching a conspiracy to starve 40 million people of Sindh through the Kalabagh dam.
The chief of the Awami Tehrik warned Gen Musharraf to withdraw the Kalabagh dam project otherwise he would be forced to step down with people’s power.
He said a major protest demonstration would be held in Hyderabad on January 18.
Earlier, hundreds of activists took out a procession from the Teer chowk to the clock tower.
Rasool Bux Palijo, Hadi Bux Bhat, Sattar Zangejo and Shama Bhatti led the protesters.
The protesters observed a sit-in at the clock tower for two hours.
Our Jacobabad correspondent adds: A big protest rally was held in protest against Kalabagh dam and army ‘operation’ in Kohlu and Dera Bugti here on Friday.
Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo led the rally.
The procession started from the DCO chowk and after passing through the main roads, reached at the Habib chowk.
Protesters carrying banners and placards raised slogans against the Kalabagh dam and army operation in Balochistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Rasool Bux Palijo and MNA Aijaz Jakhrani said that the Kalabagh dam was death warrant for the people of Sindh.
They said that three provinces have rejected the controversial project, but Gen Musharraf was insisting to construct the dam which was deep rooted conspiracy against the country.
Mr Palijo said that once again a 1971-like situation had been created in the country and innocent people were being killed in Sui and Kohlu.
He said that the army was killing its own countrymen.
Awami Tehrik leader Taj Jakhrani and A.G. Ansari also spoke on the occasion.
SEMINAR: A seminar on “Kalabagh Dam or Pakistan” was organized by the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party here on Friday.
A large number of workers of political parties attended the seminar.
STPP leaders Hyder Shahani, Majeed Memon, Ali Mohammad Lashari, Awami Tehrik leader Taj Jakhrani, JUI A.G. Ansari and PPP-SB Nadeem Qureshi spoke on the occasion.
Our Khairpur correspondent adds: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has said that the country is not a property of generals as they can do whatever they like.
He was speaking to a gathering at Panj Gulla here on Friday evening.
He said that before Kalabagh dam, 50 per cent share of water from five dams constructed in Punjab be given to Sindh because Punjab had been stealing water share of Sindh since last 50 years.
He said that waderas, Pirs, ministers and Mirs of Sindh were not loyal to the land and people and under conspiracy they sell the land of Sindh to get petty interests.
He said sellers of motherland have no right to live here or to be called Sindhi.
Zulfiqar Phulpoto, Irfan Buledi, Zahid Jakhrani and Hakeem Zangejo spoke on the occasion.
Our Larkana correspondent adds: Chief of the Awami Tehrik, Rasool Bakhsh Palijo, has said that President General Pervez Musharraf has no right to force the Kalabagh dam on the people of Sindh.
Speaking at a gathering here on Thursday night at the Jinnahbagh chowk, he made it clear that any dam against wishes of the people would not be accepted.
Mr Palijo said that thousands of acres of fertile land in coastal areas had turned barren due to acute shortage of water.
