KHAIRPUR, Jan 13: A joint protest meeting of the Pakistan People’s Party, Pir Jo Goth and Kingri taluka, was held in Pir Jo Goth on Thursday. Nazir Hussain Dhoki, media coordinator of PPP chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Dhoki said that name of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was still alive in the hearts of people and his mission was a prosperous and successful Pakistan.
He said that PPP struggled against construction of Kalabagh dam and other such anti-Sindh projects along with the other parties.
He further said that the People’s Party Punjab and intellectuals of the province were against construction of the dam.
Expressing his surprise that delegations were being sent to India for normalization of relations while in Balochistan operation was being conducted against Balochs and no negotiations were being held to settle the issue.
He said that law and order situation in Sindh was deteriorating and the opposition activists were being treated as secondary citizens.
Zaman Shah Rashidi, Syed Ikram Shah Rashidi, Pir Bux Dhoki, Ghulam Hyder Manganhar, Sher Khan Kanhar, Abdul Waheed Abbasi, Waheed Memon, Ahmed Khan Babbar and others also spoke on the occasion.
BLACK DAY: The Muttahida Mazdoor Federation and Jhoolay Lal Mazdoor Organisation observed Eid as black day against the construction of Kalabagh dam and other anti-Sindh projects.
The labourers wore black armbands. Some of them, however, wore black clothes. Later, a protest meeting was also held, which was addressed by comrade Takkar Shaikh, Amjad Lashari and others.
DAM OPPOSED: Former district nazim Ms Nafisa Shah has said that the Kalabagh dam issue has been raised to avoid real issues of people and which has further deepened the political crisis.
She was speaking at a reception hosted by a local PPP leader, Naseer Sehto, near Gadeeji.
She said that running a campaign in favour of the Kalabagh dam was violation of the Constitution of 1973 and anti-Kalabagh dam resolutions passed from assemblies of the three provinces were still valid and added this shows that the government, the president and the prime minister were acting above the assembly and the Constitution.
She said that the government was running the campaign as it was only issue of the country. She said that people of Khairpur district were facing worst law and order situation and excesses of police.
Condemning the attack on Asma Jahangir in Balochistan, she said that if a leader of human rights was attacked, what would happen with an ordinary citizen of rural areas.
She said that substandard material was being used in development schemes in Khairpur district but there was no accountability.
