KARACHI: 1.05 million offal removed in three days, says nazim


KARACHI, Jan 13: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said that 1,050,000 offal were removed from 18 towns of the city during Eidul Azha. The work of removing and destroying offal of the sacrificial animals this year was carried out swiftly and on scientific basis in coordination with the nazims and naib nazims of the UCs, he said according to a city government release issued on Friday.

The city nazim said that the number of animals sacrificed last year was hardly 500,000 to 550,000 and despite hundred per cent increase in the number of animals slaughtered this year, the offal removing process was carried out so swiftly that it looked as if no animal was slaughtered.

Mr Kamal was of the view that the success was the result of better planning.

He said that the city government had also planned aerial spray in the entire city after four to five days of Eid.

Meanwhile, the city nazim visited various city localities during Eid. On second day of Eid, he visited North Karachi and gave Eid money to over 100 workers laying the pipeline under K-III project at Lyari River and at Gulshan-i-Maymar. Earlier on the first day of Eid, he visited the Landhi Town.

SITE: Around 400 uniformed sanitation workers of the town removed and destroyed 30,000 offal of the sacrificial animals and 1,500 tons of other garbage during Eid days from its 9 UCs.

Town Nazim Izharuddin Ahmed Khan, Naib Nazim Syed Badshah and TMO Tariq Hussain Ghaloo visited different areas of the town to inspect the sanitation work.

A release said on Friday that only three complaints were received during the three days of Eid, of which two proved to be false and in one case, the sanitary staff acted promptly and removed the offal.

Upon receiving information that offal had piled up outside the Jamia mosque Mustafa, the town nazim himself rushed to the spot and supervised the removal of offal.

ORANGI: The sanitation workers of the Town removed and destroyed around 41,000 offal using 117 Suzuki pickups and 36 loaders during the Eid days from its various UCs.

Town Nazim Abdul Haq, accompanied by Naib Nazim Shahid Bashir, TMO Qamar Shaikh and others, visited various UCs to inspect the sanitation activities.

NEW KARACHI: The town administration removed 63,000 offal on the first day of Eidul Azha.

According to release issued on Friday, the town administration used 81 Suzuki pickups, 3 loaders and 12 dumpers.

SHAH FAISAL: The town administration removed 13,000 offal from the 7 UCs in its jurisdiction during three days of Eid.

Town Nazim Mohammad Imran, Naib Nazim Ali Akbar, TMO Dr Syed Ali Zafar Zaidi and UC nazims visited various areas during three days to inspect the sanitation work. The offal dumped at collection points was later destroyed.

SADDAR: The town administration removed 350,000 offal and buried them at Gutter Baghicha near Mewa Shah so that it would be used as manure in parks.

The city naib nazim, Nasreen Jalil, along with Saddar Town Nazim Mohammad Dilawar, Naib Nazim Nasir Taimuri and TMO Mukhtar Hussein visited various localities of the town and inspected offal-lifting operation.

The town administration had set up five main offal collection points from where offal lifted from streets and residential compounds were shifted to dumping ground.

Lime, bleaching powder and germicides were also sprinkled at those places where animals were sacrificed.

GULSHAN: The town administration removed 125,000 offal from its limits during the Eid days and buried at Scheme 33 to subsequently produce manure for parks and gardens.

The town administration received 72 complaints and attended immediately, a release said on Friday.

The administration used 28 vehicles meant for solid waste and 12 other hired vehicles while 250 Suzuki pickups were hired for removing offal in different union councils.

City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil, accompanied by Town Nazim Mohammad Wasay Jalil and others visited different areas of the town where after removal of offal, fumigation was carried out.

BALDIA: Around 54,930 offal were removed from various localities of the town by during the three days of Eid.

The town administration also sprinkled lime and germicide in all the UCs of the town, said a handout released here on Friday.

LANDHI: The town administration removed 118,000 offal and sprinkled about 10,000kg of lime during Eid days.

Some 70 pickups, loaders, dumpers and tractor trolleys in addition to two dumpers provided by the city government and the town’s machinery were engaged in cleanliness campaign.

The town administration had also set up four complaint centres in addition to a complaint centre in each UC.

Meanwhile, the town administration blacklisted a firm, which was given contract to supply pickups, for delay in supplying pickups on the first day of Eid.

KEAMARI: The town administration removed 25,462 offal from various areas during Eidul Azha.

Town Nazim Humayun Khan along with TMO Mohammad Latif, DTO Hanif Akhtar and other officials visited Sher Shah, Keamari, Sultanabad and other localities on all the three days of Eid and inspected offal-lifting operation.

BIN QASIM: The town administration removed 96,000 offal from the town during the three days of Eid and sprinkled 7,200kg of lime.

The offal was collected at seven points set up by the town administration. Town Nazim Umer Jat along with naib nazim and others visited various areas of the town and supervised the cleanliness works.

The town head office was made the central complaint cell for receiving complaints regarding cleanliness on Eid days. Some 40 pickups in addition to tractor trolleys and dumpers were obtained on rent for carrying out offal removing operation.

JAMSHED TOWN: The town administration removed 186,000 offal from its limits during Eidul Azha and buried them at landfill site.

Offal collection points were set up at China Ground on Kashmir Road and Sunday Bazaar in Mehmoodabad, where offal were carried and then shifted to landfill site for burial.

The city naib nazim, Nasreen Jalil, visited various localities of the town and offal collection point at China Ground and lauded arrangements of the town administration.—PPI
