SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 10: Muridke Saddar police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested two robbers during an ‘encounter’ near Chak No. 28, some 20km away from here on Muridke-Sheikhupura Road. Their two accomplices managed to escape.

Reports said four dacoits were looting commuters. They intercepted a motorcycle-rickshaw driver, Akmal, who managed to escape and informed the police.

A police party reached the spot and after an exchange of fire arrested Nazam and Nawazish. Two others escaped from the scene.

Further investigation is under way.

SECURITY: Foolproof security measures have been taken on the eve of Eidul Azha in and around the district.

DPO Aslam Tareen told the press here on Tuesday that policemen in uniform and plain clothes had been deployed on main roads, buildings, worship places and open spaces.

He also sought people’s cooperation in maintaining peace.
