CBR to increase number of taxpayers

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: The number of taxpayers will be further increased to generate more revenues, CBR Chairman Abdullah Yousuf has said. He said that the CBR was working on a system in which the taxpayers would voluntarily pay their taxes after self-assessment.

The CBR was in process of establishing regional taxpayers’ offices (RTOs) to provide better environment to the taxpayers, a private TV channel quoted Mr Yousuf as saying.

“All RTOs would be functional in 14 cities of the country by the end of this year,” he added.

The CBR chief said that in addition to Karachi and Lahore, the third large taxpayer unit (LTU) was being set up in Islamabad and it was expected to start operations by December 2006.

This year’s tax collection target of Rs690 billion was Rs100 billion higher than the target set for the last financial year, he added.—APP
