Nawabshah, Jan 9: The General secretary of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Syed Munawar Hassan, has alleged that the Kalabagh dam issue has been raised deliberately to cover up failure of the donors’ conference.

He was speaking at a press conference here on Monday. Others who were present on the occasion were provincial general secretary Rashid Naseem, Suroor Ahmed Qureshi and Professor Aijaz Alam.

Mr Hassan said the issues of Kalabagh dam and army operations in North Waziristan and Balochistan had affected unity of the country witnessed in the aftermath of the Oct 8 earthquake.

He said President Gen Pervez Musharraf wanted to construct the Kalabagh dam even though the three provincial assemblies had unanimously rejected it.

The Jamaat-i-Islami leader said that all political parties were united on removing Musharraf and an important meeting of all parties, including the ARD, was expected in Islamabad on January 20.
