Silent Angel wins feature event
KARACHI, Jan 8: Fancied four-year-old colt, Silent Angel, obliged the punters by winning the feature event with jockey Muhammad Essa completing a fine hat trick in the Winter Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday. Appearing in the six furlongs last race in a pack of 13 contenders with Ghulam Shabbir II in the saddle, Silent Angel started slowly and trailed behind Arab Hi Arab.
However, as he got into the straight after negotiating the band, the speedy colt picked up momentum and overtook Arab Hi Arab. Continuing with the same pace, he maintained his lead and crossed the finishing post two furlongs ahead of Fakhr-e-Sanghar. Arab Hi Arab settled for third place.
After two consecutive wins, Haji Khuda Bux Rajar’s Silent Angel had to be content with second position in the previous outings.
Giving splendid performance, Essa, the champion jockey of 2005, performed hat trick by piloting home three winners in a row.
He started by sprinting home Leo Again in the fifth race. In the next, he rode home Al Zarrar and completed the treble with Sharp Cat’s magnificent victory in the seventh.
Riding boy, Sheraz Ahmed also came up with a splendid double. His winners were Royal Promise in the opener and Silver City in the third race.
Owners Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara and Syed Ali Gohar Shah also had a satisfying day winning two races apiece.
Trainers Talib Hussain and Mumtaz Ali stood tall doing a double.
Meanwhile, taking stern action for ‘unsatisfactory riding’ on Shannel and Baba Jani, the administrator of the KRC has cancelled the license of jockey Dasrat besides imposing a fine of Rs. 20,000.
