JHANG, Jan 8: Sheikh Hakim Ali, former provincial minister and senior leader of an outlawed sectarian outfit, has been sent to the district jail on a three-month judicial remand under 16-MPO. The district administration has taken the action on the order of the Punjab government.

Sheikh Hakim Ali and four other leaders — Allah Ditta, Iqbal, Naeem (of Jhang) and Maulana Allah Yar Arshad (Chiniot) — were taken into custody by police on Wednesday. On Saturday, Maulana Allah Yar Arshad was set at liberty while the others were sent to the district jail.

KILLED: An elderly woman was killed by robbers in Rasoolpur locality of Jhang Saddar on Saturday.

According to reports, a youngster who was identified as Irfan forced his entrance into the house of Saeed Akhtar at Basti Rasoolpura, Sargodha Road. Talha Bibi, 60-year-old wife of Saeed, was alone at the house and the armed youngster asked her to hand him over keys to almirahs. The woman, however, raised a hue and cry and within minutes gathered people.

The intruder shot dead Talha Bibi and was later nabbed by the people, who handed him over to police.
