Robber shot at, injured by villagers

SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 8: A robber was seriously injured in an exchange of fire between villagers and bandits in Afzal Kot village in the limits of Muridke Sadar police station on Sunday. According to reports reaching here, a gang of robbers comprising around 10 members were spotted by villagers who were preparing for some criminal activity. Armed with weapons, villagers gathered at an intersection and challenged the suspected robbers. Later, in a brief exchange of fire between robbers and villagers, a robber sustained serious bullet injury. Villagers caught the injured robber who was identified as Asghar of Jaslani Morr, Nankana district. He was later handed over to police.

Further investigation is under way.

LOOTED: Armed bandits looted cash, ornaments and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in two strikes in different parts of the district on Sunday.

Five highwaymen set up a picket on Morr Khund Road near Kala Amban village, some 12kms away from here, and deprived six car riders and bus passengers of cash, ornaments and other valuables worth Rs400,000.

Bhekhi police are investigating.

Four unidentified dacoits barged into the house of Yasin in Mirajpura area and held the inmates hostage. The intruders scooped cash and other valuables worth thousands of rupees and disappeared.

B-Division police are going into the matter.
