Botha’s action under scrutiny

SYDNEY, Jan 6: The bowling action of South African off-spinner Johan Botha is to be investigated by the International Cricket Council, the ICC said after the third Test loss to Australia on on Friday.

Botha made his Test debut for the Proteas against the Australians and captured 1-26 and 1-77, but he has been reported by the game’s world governing body for throwing.

Match referee Chris Broad informed the ICC and the South Africa team management of the report, as per the ICC regulations governing the reporting process. The report will be handled under the ICC’s standard bowling review process.

Botha will undergo independent analysis of his action by a member of the ICC’s panel of human movement specialists.—Agencies
