Students farewell party attacked

PESHAWAR, Jan 6: Activists of the Islami Jamiat Tulab (IJT) attacked students at an annual farewell dinner gathering at the Khyber Law College in the Peshawar University campus on Thursday night. The campus police station has registered an FIR on Friday against activists of IJT on the complaint of Khyber Law College Principal Misalzada for the damages done to the college property and harassing students by firing in the air.

“Two girls had fainted and others escaped on hearing gunshots,” eye-witnesses said.

There was a farewell party at the Khyber Law College in the premises of the university. After dinner some activists of the IJT tried to stop the students from celebrating the event, an official at the campus police station said.

The IJT activists entered the premises after firing gunshots in the air and started threatening all those present at the function while brandishing iron rods in the air. The girl students ran towards the girls’ common room while boy students had to take shelter in the nearby rooms, members of the Alliance for the protection of Human Rights said while condemning the incident.

The activists of the IJT broke the windowpanes and tried to enter the common room, eye-witnesses claimed.

It was not the first time that students affiliated to a religious party disrupted gatherings at the Peshawar University, a student of the Khyber Law College said.

The Alliance for the Protection of Human Rights demanded that the authorities concerned should take notice of the incident and bring culprits to justice.
