Maktoum laid to rest

DUBAI, Jan 5: Dubai came to a halt on Thursday as the wealthy desert emirate bid farewell to its ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashed al-Maktoum, who died on Wednesday of natural causes while on a visit to Australia.

After Namaz-iJanaza in Dubai, the former ruler was buried.

Sheikh Maktoum, who died at the age of 62, was also vice president of the UAE.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki were among the mourners.—AFP
