GILGIT, Jan 5: The judicial inquiry report of regarding the clashes in Gilgit on Oct 13 last year was submitted to the federal government. At least 13 people, including two rangers, were killed and more than 25 injured in the clashes. The inquiry commission, comprising members of the Northern Areas Chief Court Haji Sahib Khan and Mr Muzaffar Ali, was set up to determine causes of the incident, sources said.

They said that the judicial tribunal had completed its investigation after recording statements of more than 220 witnesses.

Relatives of the victims of the Oct 13 incident called for making the inquiry report public and punish people in the light of the report’s findings.

After 1988 sectarian clashes in the Northern Areas, the federal government had constituted a judicial commission consisting of Justice (retd) Muhammad Usman, but the Shia community had boycotted its proceedings and refused to record their statements before the Commission.

Another inquiry commission was constituted after Jan 8, 2005 to investigate into the incident of sectarian violence in the Northern Areas but its finding were also not made public.
