Call for independent EC

Published January 6, 2006

ISLAMABAD, Jan 5: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) has called for a powerful and independent Election Commission (EC) rejecting results of the naib nazims’ elections held recently in the country, says a statement issued here on Thursday. PTI member Central Executive Committee Azhar Tariq alleged that the elections of naib nazims were not transparent and the government with its allies got the ‘desired results.’

Mr Tariq stated that the local government system had now entered in its second phase but the over-all performance of the system had been far from satisfactory.—Our Reporter
