Kalabagh dam canals

Published January 5, 2006

LAHORE, Jan 4: A spokesman for the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority, commenting on a news item published in Dawn on Jan 4 entitled “Munda dam should follow Kalabagh dam” on an in-camera briefing to senators, has denied that Wapda claimed that the Kalabagh dam would have no utility in terms of cost benefit ratio without the left and right bank canals.

The spokesman said no such statement attributed to Wapda was made.

The spokesman added that the present design report of the Kalabagh dam project did not envisage any canals and its feasibility as well as cost benefit ratio had been worked out accordingly. As no canals were envisaged, Wapda did not present any cost benefit ratio with canals.
