Wagon drivers beat police

SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 4: A wagon driver and his colleagues beat up traffic policemen, tore their uniforms and ransacked furniture at the Chowk Pir Bahar Shah check post while reacting to an altercation on road here on Wednesday. Reports said a wagon (GT-311) made a halt in the middle of the Lahore Road to offload commuters. ASI Ghulam Abbas got the vehicle removed after which the driver exchanging harsh words with him.

This led to a brawl after which the driver, along with his colleagues, stormed into the check post and gave a sound beating to ASI Ghulam Abbas, constables Dilawar Husain and Nasir Shah and clerk Farhad. The intruders also ransacked the furniture.

The ASI later alleged that the intruders snatched Rs29,400 from him. The B-Division police are investigating. — Correspondent
