Filing of returns by corporates up 6pc

ISLAMABAD, Jan 4: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) received 11,836 corporate returns up to December 31, 2005 as against 11,210 returns filed during the same period of last year, indicating an increase of six per cent.

Official data released here on Wednesday showed that only 626 new corporates were added in the tax net despite the fact that the government had announced attractive incentives in the budget for corporatization.

With the corporate returns, the tax officials received Rs16.251 billion as tax during the period under review as against Rs9.925 billion received during the same period of the last year, indicating an increase of 64 per cent.

Moreover, the non-corporate income tax returns until December 31, 2005 increased from 1,125,174 to 1,269,498, showing an increase of 13 per cent.

The number of income tax returns was 1.23 million during the same period last year.
