Pervaiz orders amendments to law on kite flying
LAHORE, Jan 2: Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has ordered amendments to the law governing kite flying to ensure implementation of the ban on the dangerous sport, as directed by the Supreme
Court.
The chief minister was presiding over a meeting held here on Monday to discuss amendments to the Punjab Prohibition of Dangerous Kite Flying. District Nazim Mian Aamir Mahmood, Chief Secretary Salman Siddique and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Pervaiz Elahi said that the law for complete prohibition of dangerous kite flying would be implemented soon through an ordinance.
He directed the law secretary to prepare a draft carrying necessary amendments.
The chief minister regretted the loss of life and property due to kite flying. He, however, said that the permission of kite flying on certain occasions or for a specified period would be granted for recreation and to benefit people engaged in this trade. He said that tourism culture would also be promoted through kite flying but those engaged in its trade could not be allowed to play with the lives of the people and their property.
He said that under no circumstances the use of mettle wire could be allowed. He directed the police to ensure implementation of the ban on the use of metallic wire and ‘tandi’ and take strict action against offenders.—APP
