MANDI BAHAUDDIN, Jan 2: Five persons of a family, including three children, were died of suffocation at Mangat village, some 10kms away from here, on Monday.

Reports said Mukhtar Ahmed, 30, a driver by profession, left a gas heater burning in his bedroom, and went to sleep along with his wife Kusar Fatima, 28, two daughters—Rimsha, 7, Sana, 2—and three-year-old son Farhat Abbas.

Late in the night, the fire got extinguished somehow, and the room got filled with the gas, suffocating all the family members to death.

Mangat bazaars remained shut to mourn the deaths.

KILLED: A twelve-year-old boy was gunned down for offering resistance during a dacoity at Mauza Mugho Pindi village on Sunday night.

Reports said seven dacoits made forced entry into the houses of Muhammad Azam and Khizar Hayat, who lived abroad. The dacoits locked up the inmates in a room and gathered Rs50,500 cash and eight tola gold ornaments. Before leaving the houses, the dacoits gunned down Faisal, 12, for offering resistance during the dacoity.

The ongoing spat of dacoities in the district has so far claimed four lives.
