LAHORE, Jan 2: Former Punjab chief minister and ex-speaker Muhammad Haneef Ramay, who died here on Sunday, was laid to rest in the Defence Housing Society’s main graveyard on Monday.
His funeral prayers were offered at a Defence mosque. A large number of people from various walks of life attended the prayers.
Governor Khalid Maqbool visited Mr Ramay’s residence in the morning to offer condolences to Ibrahim Ramay and other members of the bereaved family. The governor’s wife paid a separate visit.
Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi was represented at the funeral prayers by minister and PML secretary-general Chaudhry Zaheeruddin.
Speaker Afzal Sahi, minister of state for Railways Ishaq Khakwani, provincial minister Aleem Khan, PPP leaders Sheikh Rafiq, Jehangir Badr, Qasim Zia, Altaf Qureshi, Naveed Chaudhry, Mian Misbahur Rehman and Munir Ahmed Khan also attended the funeral prayers.
PPP-SB leader Dr Mubashir Hasan, PML leader S.M. Zafar, former governor Shahid Hamid, former foreign minister Sartaj Aziz, former chief minister Manzoor Wattoo, Abid Minto, architect Nayyer Ali Dada, Engr Iftikharul Haq, Rao Rashid, Mian Ehsanul Haq, Mian Aslam, Qureshi Hafeez, Farrukh Sohail Goindi were also present.
Speaker Sahi also laid a floral wreath on the grave of Mr Ramay.
Qul will be held at the main Jamia Masjid, Defence, Phase-1, on Tuesday (today) at 2:30pm. Dua will be offered at 3:30pm.
