Radcliffe wins marathon

LONDON, Jan 1:Marathon world champion Paula Radcliffe of Great Britain won the 10km New Year’s Eve road-race in Madrid though she suffered a mid-race scare when a spectator accidentally sprayed a streamer into her mouth. Radcliffe finished almost 200 metres ahead of Latvian Jelena Prokopcuka, in an unofficial 31 minutes 16 seconds.

The men’s race was won by Kenya’s former 5,000m world champion Eliud Kipchoge, in an unofficial 27:51.—AFP
